How to bring technology to social work?

Description

Chapter by Andrés Aparicio Alonso, MICARE associate researcher, and Paula Miranda Sánchez, MICARE senior researcher.

The Routledge International Handbook of Digital Social Work provides an authoritative and cutting-edge overview of current research and trends related to the emerging field of digital technology and social work. The book has chapters on big data, digital files, gerotechnology, data ethics, among others.

The chapter written by the MICARE researchers aims to make an efficient inclusion of technologies in social work. They describe that its incorporation must begin in the formative stages of the discipline with ethical, responsibility and sustainability criteria. This chapter presents an account of this process by linking two experiences, one on the creation and implementation of a new undergraduate course called Social Innovation and Technology for Social Work, and another on the design and use of an application to provide patient/ family in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic in Santiago de Chile.
