Paving the way to autonomy: early interactions and adaptive behaviours in babies with Down syndrome

Description

FONDECYT project awarded by our alternate director and UAndes professor, Marcela Tenorio.

“Paving the way to autonomy: an interdisciplinary approach to the relationship between early interactions and adaptive behaviours in babies with Down syndrome.”

Aims:

  • Analyze the relationships between the interactions established by parents of babies with Down syndrome, with the development of their adaptive behaviours.
  • Move forward in the development of a comprehensive model that supports a multilevel intervention program that can improve these families’ quality of life.

Methodology:

120 children and their parents will participate. 60 minors live with Down syndrome between 12 and 36 months, and 60 minors present typical development.

Of these families, 40 will be invited to participate in a program aimed at improving early interactions. The program will be worked with UNICEF and Chile Crece Contigo.
