About Us
We are the Millennium Institute for Care Research
Funded by ANID and housed in four Chilean universities:
In MICARE, we are convinced that, with sufficient evidence, we can transform at the most personal level the persons responsible for proposing, promoting, and implementing public policies.
We adhere to and respect the human rights treaties in force and are especially enthusiastic about the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD; UN, 2006) and the Inter-American Convention on Protecting the Human Rights of Older Persons (OAS; 2017).
These treaties provide us with a special framework that allows us to think about caregiving and companionship from a relationship perspective in which all stakeholders are equally relevant.
Our research lines:
Line 1
Sociocultural aspects of care and life course perspective.
Line 2
Informal and formal care of elderly dependents.
Line 3
Care versus companionship in the context of intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
Line 4
Technology and care.
